If you are an upper level student (B2 or C1), you like challenges, and you want to give a little extra push to your English,  this course is perfect for you! Join this course run by a lovely native speaker teacher who doesn’t speak your language, and you will be learning faster in a fun and relaxed environment.

You will improve your conversation skills in an interactive way, working in plenary as well as in small groups with your teacher’s supervision.

The lessons will mainly focus on speaking, listening and pronunciation and your teacher will customise the programme according to the class’ needs, providing always new and interesting topics to discuss.

This class is also open to non-Italian students!

Lesson 1 – BODY LANGUAGE
We define some common communicative gestures and explore how these are used cross-culturally and in business contexts. The lesson includes listening and reading practice, discussion activities and a chance to use gestures in a mini-drama or mini-presentation. An optional extension activity defines some common body idioms.

Lesson 2 – FESTIVALS
What live event/performance do you enjoy and why? Which music festivals have you been to? Which would you like to go to? What kinds of things create a good festival atmosphere and attract large crowds? How important is it for event organisers to think about their impact on the environment? How can festival-goers reduce their impact on the environment when they attend events?

Lesson 3 – PERFORMING/SPEAKING IN PUBLIC
What do you find the most frightening? giving a presentation in English making a speech in public performing in front of an audience competing in a live sporting event What are the best ways to prepare for a public performance? What can you do to overcome 'stage fright?' Let's look at some phrasal verbs connected with performing

Lesson 4 – MAKING CHANGES
What is important for a healthy lifestyle? Think about your lifestyle in five years’ time. Do you have any goals? How might your life be different? Discuss your goals and predictions. How to use the future continuous and future perfect to talk about actions/events in the future

Lesson 5 – CONNECTIONS
Which people, places or things are important to you and why? Which people, places or things in your life are the most special to you? Why? How did you meet your closest friend(s)? What’s the most common way to meet new people? Let's learn some new vocabulary about relationships and talk about past habits

Lesson 6 – THE CARROT OR THE STICK??
DISCUSSION What do you think encourages people to do things? a reward or a punishment? 1. Which of your ideas are based on people getting a reward if they do something? 2. Which ideas are based on the fear of something bad happening if they don’t do it? 3. Which do you think has a stronger effect on people – the promise of a reward or the fear of something bad? How can we engage with other people's views? How can we respond tactfully to someone's opinion if we don't agree?
